Plans, publishing soon

Les plans sont gratuits — the plans are free.

Every design we make is published under an open licence: the drawings, the 3D files, the code and the notes, including what went wrong.

Right now the handbook behind this site is private while we tidy it up for publication. When it goes public, the download links below switch on. Nothing will ever be held back to protect a product.

Index, honest statuses

What will be here.

Most of these are still being designed or built. Plans go up as they’re ready, with an honest status — a parked project’s files are still worth having.

Render of a printed storage baseplate with three bins.

Likely the first downloads

  1. Printed workshop storage

A Gridfinity baseplate and bins, with our generator settings. Upstream MIT.

  2. Akaroa relief maps

The map-making code and test tiles.

  3. Caisse

The plywood box system, cutting lists and printed jigs.

  4. M0 intake booth and M2 magnet tools

    Printed parts and procedures.

The order may change.

Licences, in plain words

What you’re allowed to do.

Short version: download it, build it, change it, share it. Most of our designs are share-alike: if you publish an improved version, it stays open too, with credit. Every project page and every file says which licence applies.

A note on the MK6

One machine is built here but isn’t ours to sell.

The bottle-to-filament machine is the Recreator3D MK6, designed by Joshua R. Taylor under a non-commercial licence. We can build it, film it, teach with it and share our changes. Nobody — us included — may sell it, its parts or kits of it. That’s why our first kit will be something we designed ourselves.

The MK6 project

How it stays free

The knowledge is free. Only convenience is sold.

Anyone can build any project from the published files without paying anything. Later, we may sell simple kits for people who’d rather not order twelve small parts from three countries, and run workshops for visitors. A kit never buys access to a design, and early access never becomes exclusive access.

Rebuilt elsewhere

Built one of ours? Tell us.

Designs rebuilt elsewhere are one of the five ways we judge success. Send us what you changed, what broke and what you’d do differently. With your permission, we’ll credit you by name.
